Star Citizen PTU reveals updated Anvil Liberator exterior

An updated exterior model for Anvil Aerospace’s Liberator has appeared in Star Citizen’s Public Test Universe, giving players their clearest look yet at the large ship carrier and cargo transport’s revised design.

Video walkthroughs of the PTU model show that the Liberator retains major elements of its earlier concept, including its circular rear engines and side-mounted fuel tanks, while adding considerably more exterior detail and several access and defensive features.

The ship is designed around transporting smaller spacecraft, ground vehicles and cargo rather than serving as a direct-combat capital ship. Its layout includes landing pads, a front garage access area, a rear ramp, personnel elevators and walkways intended to support loading and boarding. Community analyses of the model also point to multiple decks and what appears to be a substantial engineering space, although the Liberator’s interior has not yet been publicly shown in the PTU material.

More defenses and access points

The revised model appears to add point-defense cannons and dual turrets, including a forward point-defense position where earlier concept art showed a window. The additional weapons give the Liberator more means to protect itself and the ships it carries, but its reported armament remains limited relative to dedicated warships.

Other visible changes include larger maneuvering thrusters, redesigned engine detailing, VTOL thrusters beneath the hull, segmented landing gear, floodlights and control panels around ramps and doors. Walkways and staircases near the front landing area, along with elevators at other points on the ship, suggest an emphasis on moving crew, passengers and vehicles between decks.

Some details identified in fan walkthroughs remain speculative. For example, the purpose of several underside hatches and the eventual use of openings around the forward ramp have not been confirmed by developer Cloud Imperium Games.

A mobile support role still awaits its gameplay systems

The Liberator’s carrier-like arrangement has long positioned it as a potential mobile forward base for smaller ships and ground operations. In addition to transport, players have discussed using it to provide repair, refueling and restocking support away from established locations.

However, the gameplay systems needed to fully realize those services are not yet broadly implemented. The model’s arrival in the PTU therefore provides a view of the ship’s evolving physical design, rather than confirmation of all of its eventual functionality or a release timetable.

The updated exterior also reinforces the Liberator’s intended niche: a defensible logistics and deployment platform that can bring smaller craft and vehicles to an operation, rather than a vessel built to lead a frontline engagement.
