The 4.10.3 PTU patch for Star Citizen introduces the Vanduul Incursion mission line featuring challenging deep space combat against Vanduul and Shattered Blade enemies, new points of interest in the Nyx system, and rewards including new gear like the LBCO Scornov automatic DMR with unique heat mechanics. These missions emphasize teamwork and progression through reputation grinding, offering varied objectives and new tradeable items, enhancing both ground and space combat experiences.
The 4.10.3 PTU patch for Star Citizen introduces an exciting new feature: the Vanduul Incursion mission line. Intercept Defense Solutions has launched contracts targeting the Vanduul and Shattered Blade clan, set in deep space locations rather than existing areas. These missions challenge experienced pilots and ground teams to face off against some of the most aggressive enemies in the system, including various Vanduul ships such as Blades, Glaives, Scythes, and Stingers. To access most of these contracts, players must first complete the Vanduul tech smugglers mission from the “Welcome to Nyx” storyline, which requires grinding reputation.
The mission line includes several engaging objectives, such as the Shattered Blade raid where players clear out enemy forces from auxiliary stations in the Nyx system, and a “Retake Ship” mission where a vessel boarded by the Shattered Blade must be reclaimed. Other missions involve holding out against escalating waves of Vanduul ships across multiple difficulty tiers, a three-way standoff involving players, Vanduul, and Shattered Blade forces, and a “Redacted Takedown” where players fight through waves of Vanduul to confront a mysterious new threat. Higher difficulty tiers are designed for crew play, emphasizing teamwork over solo efforts.
Alongside these missions, new space and FPS combat points of interest have been added throughout the Nyx system. A second variant of Vanduul cryopods has been introduced: while the existing “red” pods contain living Vanduul, the new “tint” marks dead pods, which are now more valuable and can be traded to an NPC named Wicklow. Completing harder mission tiers rewards players with blueprints for new gear, including an energy rifle, two heavy armor sets, a new flight suit, and a new set of ship weapons, enhancing both ground and space combat options.
One of the standout additions is the new FPS weapon from Lightning Bolt Co., the LBCO Scornov rifle. This weapon is a fully automatic designated marksman rifle (DMR) with 27 damage per projectile, a 375 rounds-per-minute rate, and a 30-round magazine. It features an electrified pulse effect that chains damage to nearby enemies, making it highly effective against groups. The weapon also has a unique heat mechanic influenced by environmental temperature, overheating faster in hot climates and slower in cold ones, adding a strategic layer to its use. The Scornov’s recoil profile requires skill to master but rewards players with powerful damage output.
For the PTU phase, the new weapons and ammo can be found in several locations including Area 18, Cubby Blast, GrimHEX Skutters, Conscientious Objects, and Checkmate weapon shop. While the patch notes mention new ship weapons, details about them remain sparse. Overall, this patch brings fresh content and challenges for players, expanding the lore and gameplay around the Vanduul threat and introducing new gear to enhance the Star Citizen experience.
