X4 Empire Update (9.00) ✨ Public Beta Now Available

The X4 Empire Update 9.00 Public Beta introduces a major overhaul of combat mechanics, visual enhancements, and new gameplay features like priority orders and dynamic mining regions, with a strong emphasis on player feedback to refine the experience. Additionally, it adds new modules, economic elements, and improved AI behavior, encouraging players to participate in the beta and contribute to the update’s development.

In the announcement for the X4 Empire Update 9.00 Public Beta, Owen, a programmer at Egosoft, expresses excitement about launching the public beta phase. He emphasizes the importance of player involvement in beta testing, highlighting how player feedback has always been crucial in identifying bugs, stress testing, and shaping updates. Given the significant core changes in this update, player feedback is more vital than ever to refine the experience.

A major focus of the update is the comprehensive overhaul of combat mechanics. This includes improvements to ship fighting behavior, equipment performance, and AI pilot tactics to create more dynamic and challenging battles. Capital ships have been enhanced with smarter positioning, better main gun usage, and more effective turret control. Weapon aiming has been reworked to reward skilled maneuvering, and hundreds of weapons and shields have been adjusted to create clearer distinctions between ship capabilities and to balance pricing relative to performance.

The update also brings visual and compatibility improvements through an updated art pipeline. Small and medium ships now feature cosmetic upgrades with better integration of engines, turrets, and shields. This pipeline also allows for improved weapon compatibility across factions, enabling, for example, Boron gear to be equipped on non-Boron ships. Additionally, missile launcher slots have been redesigned: they no longer compete with conventional weapon slots on small and medium ships but are now dedicated to certain fighter ships, improving balance and specialization. Missile interception and targeting have also been enhanced for better combat strategy.

New gameplay features and interface improvements are included as well. Players can now issue priority orders directly from the map, which execute immediately before resuming the standard command queue, allowing for more precise ship control. The user interface has been refined with better clarity and readability, including new statistics screens and an extended HUD that shows weapon reload status. Non-combat changes include a dynamic rework of mining regions with shifting resource distribution and more impressive faction station constructions based on predefined plans.

Finally, the update introduces new modules and economic elements, such as the ship showroom module for displaying small and medium ships, and an expanded salvaging system featuring a new Kha’ak recycling lead that produces a unique wear called Allographyne. This new wear can mimic others in production, providing alternative supply management options and integrating into the Nvidium economy. Owen encourages players to participate in the public beta, backing up saves beforehand, and looks forward to community feedback to help evolve the update further.
