What's Going on in Star Citizen? | Roadmap Update, China Bar Citizen, & More

Last week in Star Citizen featured the Defense Con 2956 event with a focus on the Ironclad ship, a successful Bar Citizen tour stop in Guangzhou unveiling a new Origin fighter, and the release of a Jump Point issue showcasing concept art and project updates. Upcoming highlights include development updates on patches 4.8 and 4.9, community spotlights, Inside Star Citizen episodes, continued Bar Citizen events in Seoul and Paris, and the introduction of Travis “Big T” as the new community manager.

Last week in Star Citizen, the community was abuzz with the announcement of Defense Con 2956, an event running from May 14th to May 27th at the Bevvic Convention Center in Arena Commander or Area 18 Corp. This year’s Defense Con is notable for its focus on the Ironclad, a major ship highlight, which is being sold right from the start of the event. Unlike previous years where Defense Con followed Invictus Week, this time it overlaps due to lore developments involving the UEE military returning to Soul (Earth) and Drake taking over the event’s spotlight. There is speculation that this event might also serve as a platform for Squadron 42 marketing or story progression involving the VanDuel approaching Soul.

The Bar Citizen tour continued strongly with a recent stop in Guangzhou, China, drawing a large crowd for a day filled with Q&A sessions, ship sculpting, community booths, and competitive activities like remote control STV racing. This event reflects Cloud Imperium’s ongoing efforts to engage the massive Chinese market and foster a global community. The event also featured an ARG storyline centered around the UEE and Xi’an coming together amidst the Xeno threat, culminating in a reveal of a new Origin Jump Works fighter, the M80 heavy fighter. Key studio members, including Tyler John and Aaron Roberts, were present, sharing insights on exploration, flight models, suit lockers, and food buffs.

Additionally, a new Jump Point issue was released for subscribers, offering concept art and updates on various projects such as the Kraken and the Aurora Mark II ship. The concept art showcased is expansive and hints at the depth of development yet to be revealed for locations like GrimHex, Pyro, and ships like the Reclaimer and 600i. This release underscores the rich visual and narrative content being developed behind the scenes in Star Citizen.

Looking ahead to the current week, several important updates are scheduled. Tuesday will see a new com link in the newsletter, followed by Wednesday’s roadmap roundup, which will provide a development update primarily focused on the tail end of the 4.8 patch, with a more substantial 4.9 update expected in two weeks. Wednesday also brings the org spotlight com link for players seeking active organizations to join, and the April PU monthly report detailing last month’s development progress. Thursday features a new episode of Inside Star Citizen, likely highlighting features and improvements coming in 4.8, with a potential preview of new ships.

Finally, the Bar Citizen tour continues with events planned for Seoul, South Korea, and Paris, offering more opportunities for community engagement. The video also introduced Travis, known as Big T, who is stepping into a new role as community manager after six years on the concierge team. He expressed excitement about working closely with the Star Citizen community and encouraged players to connect with him on social platforms. Overall, the week promises a mix of community events, development updates, and new content reveals, keeping the Star Citizen universe vibrant and engaging.
