This Will Change Combat Forever | Master Mode Explained | Star Citizen

Star Citizen is introducing a new experimental flight mode called Master mode, aimed at changing combat by slowing it down and reducing distances between players. This mode reduces ship speeds, limits offensive and defensive capabilities, and encourages close-quarters combat scenarios, with the developer seeking player feedback on the changes.

Star Citizen is experimenting with a new flight mode called Master mode, aimed at changing combat in the game. While it’s not going to be introduced in the upcoming update, it’s an experimental feature that aims to slow down combat and reduce distances between players. In Master mode, the ship’s speed is significantly reduced, allowing for quicker acceleration but limiting the top speed to about 224 meters per second. This is a drastic reduction compared to the current live servers where ships can reach speeds of over 1000 meters per second.

Master mode has a different set of capabilities depending on the mode the ship is in. In SCM (Space Combat Maneuvering) mode, players have access to weapons, shields, and other defensive tools like decoys and noise. However, pressing B switches the ship to nav (navigation) mode, which disables weapons, shields, and defensive tools, but increases the ship’s speed to its original capabilities. The mode switch happens instantly, without the need to wait for a charging indicator.

The purpose of Master mode is to create more close-quarters combat scenarios, focusing on player skill rather than long-range engagements. By reducing speeds and limiting access to offensive and defensive capabilities, Star Citizen aims to encourage tighter combat engagements. This experimental feature may provide a more immersive and action-packed experience, where players need to rely on their piloting skills.

The developer is interested in hearing player feedback regarding this experimental feature. Users are encouraged to share their thoughts on whether they believe this change is positive or negative for the game and if they would suggest any modifications to the system. Star Citizen continues to evolve and experiment with new mechanics to enhance the gameplay experience for its players.
