The Wipe and other Essential Things to Know About Star Citizen 4.8

In this video, Daniel Raymond provides an overview of Star Citizen 4.8, highlighting a partial in-game asset wipe, specialized flight suits with varying G-force protection, changes to consumable ammunition and missile mechanics, and new features like ship loadout saving and a “bricking” system to prevent insurance abuse. The update also enhances refueling gameplay, expands carrier logistics with shipboard services, and introduces the Tactical Strike Group mission, all aimed at deepening tactical and economic gameplay.

In this video, Daniel Raymond from Ray’s Guide provides an essential overview of the upcoming Star Citizen 4.8 update, which has entered its first release candidate phase in the PTU ahead of Drake Defense Con. A significant aspect of this patch is a substantial, though not total, wipe of in-game assets. Players will lose mined materials, guild script, items, vehicles, and ships purchased with in-game currency (AUEC), and their alpha UEC balances will reset to starting values. However, items linked to the player’s RSI account, such as ships bought through Wicolo and crafting blueprints, will remain intact, as will reputation.

The update introduces changes to flight suits, making them more specialized. Flight suits now provide varying levels of protection against G-forces, with racing suits and helmets offering the highest protection, followed by flight suits and helmets, and street clothes providing the least. This change adds tactical depth, as players must choose appropriate armor based on mission type—flight suits for dogfighting and heavy armor for ground assaults. The ability to change suits inside certain fighter ships before exiting may offer strategic advantages.

Consumable missiles and ammunition mechanics have also changed. Previously, ships claimed through insurance came fully loaded, but now, after the initial delivery, ships will be empty upon claim, requiring players to pay for resupply. This change is expected to increase the cost of moving ships via insurance claims and create more demand for crafting ammunition and missiles. Additionally, players can now save custom ship loadouts at ASOP terminals and choose to claim either stock or saved configurations, although currently, some custom-crafted components and certain items are not included in claimed loadouts.

A new “bricking” feature has been introduced to combat insurance exploitation. When a ship is insurance claimed, a timer starts, after which the ship and its components become unusable. While there are hints about a possible future method to “unbrick” ships, this is unlikely to be implemented soon as the feature aims to maintain economic balance. The update also revitalizes refueling gameplay by simplifying the refueling mini-game and introducing refueling missions and NPC refuelers responding to rescue beacons.

Star Citizen 4.8 also expands carrier logistics and tactical gameplay. Large ships with hangers, like the Idris and Ironclad, now support shipboard refuel, repair, and rearm services, though these require careful cargo grid management for supplies like RMC, hydrogen, quantum fuel, ammunition, and missiles. The featured mission content is the Tactical Strike Group operation, a multi-crew ground and ship mission involving a hostage rescue on a fortified asteroid, culminating in a battle against a Vandal destroyer. Daniel concludes with updates on giveaways and encourages viewers to subscribe and participate using the secret word “logistics.”
