Starship Simulator NEWS: Galaxy Reset, Extra-Galactic Objects & Cool Conference Room Feature

The Starship Simulator game has undergone significant updates, including a reset of the galaxy modeling system with a new center at Sagittarius A* and the addition of various stellar object types and political states. A new feature allows players to watch YouTube content in the conference room, enhancing the immersive experience within the game environment.

This week on the Starship show, significant changes have been made to the Galaxy modeling system in the Starship Simulator game. The entire galaxy has been re-entered, with the supermassive black hole at Sagittarius A* now at the absolute center in sector 0000. This shift may have caused the galaxy to move around your ship if you’re playing in the development build. Additionally, the black hole itself has been replaced with a fully handcrafted volumetric version. New code has been added to handle extended stellar object types such as LT and Y class Stars, Neutron stars, white dwarf stars, and rogue planets. Further groundwork has been laid to define political states for Galactic sectors, such as independent, single large Empires, or two factions at war. Nebulae in the galaxy have been rescaled to be larger at 100 light years across, with toned-down visibility for a more realistic appearance. The galactic Halo of the Milky Way now extends out to 326,000 light years, providing ample room to encapsulate the Milky Way’s two satellite dwarf galaxies, the small and large Magellanic Clouds.

A new feature has been added to the Magellan’s conference lounge in Starship Simulator. The room now features a large screen that can display YouTube content when fed with a valid URL. While this feature is still in testing and may undergo changes in the future, it currently supports pre-recorded content only, not live streams. The screen reflects beautifully on the ceiling and table surfaces, with directional sound enhancing the viewing experience. To use the video player, players can click the load URL button on the left-hand wall, paste the desired YouTube URL using Control V, and hit play to start watching the video.

Players are encouraged to explore the changes in the game, such as reaching Sagittarius A* or watching videos in the conference room. The video player feature allows for an immersive experience within the game, showcasing the capabilities of the Unreal Engine. The conference room’s ambiance is enhanced when the lights are switched off, allowing the screen to reflect beautifully in the surroundings. Viewers can engage with the video player by loading URLs and enjoying various YouTube content within the game environment. The developers are open to feedback from players who have experienced these new features, inviting them to share their thoughts in the comments section.

In summary, the recent updates to Starship Simulator have brought significant enhancements to the Galaxy modeling system, including re-entering the entire galaxy and introducing new stellar object types and political states for Galactic sectors. The expansion of the galactic Halo now accommodates the Milky Way’s satellite dwarf galaxies, offering players even more exploration opportunities. The addition of the video player feature in the Magellan’s conference lounge provides a unique and immersive experience for players to enjoy YouTube content within the game. Players are encouraged to explore these new features and share their experiences with the developers to contribute to the ongoing development of Starship Simulator.
