Star Citizen - Why Arena Commander?

“Hello Citizens!
In today’s video I want to talk about the announced changes to Arena Commander coming in 3.20 and how CIG is aiming to use Arena Commander. Enjoy!”

Arena Commander was one of the first modules to become playable for Star Citizen, although it has seen very minimal changes over the years. Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) recently announced major updates to Arena Commander in patch 3.2, including new maps, game modes and the ability for players to multi-crew ships. This update is interesting as it now allows CIG to bring objects and locations from the in-game universe into Arena Commander, making it easier for players to access them. In addition, CIG can use Arena Commander to test new gameplay and features, and it has a separate release cycle.

Arena Commander is useful for CIG as it provides a safe and stable environment to test both features and balance. It also makes it easy for players to practice their skills in an environment free from persistent universe time sinks. With the newly announced updates, CIG may also use Arena Commander to provide tutorials and more, possibly even reviving old modules such as the Hangar.

Players should be excited about the changes coming to Arena Commander, as it makes it easier for them to access the game’s content. CIG can also use Arena Commander to test out features, well away from the persistent universe, allowing them to experiment and improve performance and stability. While CIG will undoubtedly devote much of its time and effort to Squadron 42 and the Persistent Universe, Arena Commander should remain an important part of the overall Star Citizen experience.
