Star Citizen has released an updated Star Engine demo video with improved visuals and NPC awareness. The discussion on the future of ship flight and combat reveals plans for Master modes, EWAR mechanics, and updates to larger ships, while maintaining a balance between realism and gamification.
Star Citizen recently released an updated Star Engine demo video that showcases improvements and tweaks over the original demo shown at Citizen Con 2953. The new video is in 4K and features smoother camera movements and polished elements. NPCs in the demo now display improved awareness, such as extinguishing fires on the Reclaimer ship. The video also highlights future plans for engineering gameplay, including potential fires and life support mechanics planned for Q2 2024.
In a discussion on the Pipeline Discord, CIG’s Yogi clat shared details about the future of ship movement and combat in Star Citizen. The hover mode will not be reintroduced due to issues with user interface and controls, but players will have the option to disable gravity assist when decoupled. VTOL ships will not behave like helicopters, and aerodynamically shaped ships will have better aerodynamic properties. The game will strike a balance between realistic simulation and gamification.
Yogi clat mentioned that when Master modes are ready, they will be rolled out to all ships simultaneously. Public testing and feedback will play a crucial role in refining the new modes, but it may take some time to iron out all the bugs. Plans for EWAR (“Electronic Warfare”) mechanics and a weapon and gimbal rework are also in the pipeline. The Aaron Halo may serve as a forced stop during Quantum travel. Furthermore, larger ships will undergo updates to align with the new Master modes.
Yogi clat expressed confidence in CIG’s roadmap and stated that they are focused on delivering the features showcased at Citizen Con within the next year. However, specific release dates for features like the Squadron 42 game are still uncertain. The development team has conducted internal PvP testing and prototyping to ensure they are prepared for any changes that may arise. Lastly, the video also includes advertisements for NordVPN and Toby Eye Track 5, as well as a giveaway of different ships to celebrate the intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2953.
Overall, Star Citizen enthusiasts can look forward to the updated Star Engine demo video, the implementation of Master modes, and future improvements to ship movement and combat mechanics.
