Star Citizen Shadow Patch Notes 4.2 - The Fallout Patch

The Star Citizen “Fallout Patch” 4.2 introduces significant gameplay enhancements, including improved mech functionality, dynamic weather and radiation hazards, new weapons and customization options, and various ship and balance adjustments to enrich immersion and player strategy. Additionally, the patch features quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and new events like the Apex sandworm encounter, offering players fresh challenges and content within the Persistent Universe.

The latest Star Citizen patch, dubbed the “Fallout Patch,” brings a host of subtle but impactful changes and additions that enhance gameplay and immersion. One notable update is the color change of decontamination pens for radiation treatment from red to yellow, making them easier to identify. The Argo Atlas mech has received improvements, including the ability to spawn directly on freight elevators and snap onto cargo grids, though initial movement requires a tractor beam. Players can now acquire the new Atlas combat mech suit at Lazarus sites, with locked doors requiring large Hathor-style batteries to access. Additionally, Wiccolo trades have been updated with new rewards, including a jump-pack-equipped icy variant of the Atlas.

Several gameplay mechanics and vehicle attributes have been tweaked for better balance. Refining times at stations have been significantly reduced, and torpedo mechanics were improved with a new medium detonation range to prevent self-damage. Missile lock ranges were increased, inadvertently nerfing the Firebird’s stealth playstyle. Distortion damage was introduced for bombs, allowing players to use distortion guns and EMP blasts defensively against incoming artillery. Various ships, including the Misque Starlancer and Prowler, received speed and survivability buffs, while coolers and shield regen rates were adjusted with mixed results.

The patch also introduces dynamic weather effects and radiation hazards to the Persistent Universe, enhancing environmental realism. Storms now appear permanently in certain locations like Pyro 1 and Pyro 4, complete with dynamic puddles and atmospheric effects. Radiation sickness has been added, with new icons and injury tiers, and med beds now provide temporary protection after respawning. An Apex sandworm, or irradiated “radorm,” was introduced as part of a new event, requiring players to team up and use FPS gear and the Atlas mech to defeat it. The event involves collecting keys, switching to lab outfits, and braving stormy conditions on Pyro planets.

On the customization and equipment front, new short hairstyles and receding hairlines have been added, along with improved armor swapping mechanics that automatically transfer equipped items. New weapons like the powerful Vault shotgun and environmental suits have been introduced, though some older hazmat suits lack radiation protection. Ships like the Atlas Geo and several others have been added to in-game shops or Wiccolo trades, with new skins and variants enhancing visual options. Ship turbulence effects were also added to create more realistic hovering behavior in gravity environments.

Finally, the patch includes various quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes, such as man turrets on the Idris receiving movement buffs, cross-section reductions for the Asgard and Valkyrie ships, and UI updates like a new scanning interface. The creator also announces their attendance at an upcoming Bar Citizen event in Tampa, Florida. For players interested in giveaways, a Marai Guardian game package with LTI is up for grabs through the creator’s Twitch channel. Overall, the patch delivers a mix of new content, balance changes, and immersive environmental updates that promise to enrich the Star Citizen experience.
