Star Citizen’s Day of the Vara 2026 adds mask challenge and pumpkin contest

Star Citizen’s Halloween-themed Day of the Vara event has returned with an Arena Commander challenge, ship cosmetics and a community pumpkin-decorating competition.

Players can earn the Snarling Vanduul mask by playing two matches of the FPS version of Kill Collector in Arena Commander, according to event details shared by community sources. Winning is not required under the reported 2026 rules, making the reward more accessible than in the previous event.

The change follows a more demanding requirement last year, when players reportedly needed top-three finishes in three Kill Collector matches. Reports also said that earlier reward distribution was affected by a bug.

Pumpkin entries due November 9

Day of the Vara’s pumpkin-carving contest asks players to create designs based on Frankenstein, vampire or werewolf themes. Entries that incorporate a Star Citizen ship silhouette may receive bonus consideration.

All valid entries are set to receive the Hill Horror flight helmet after the contest closes at 20:00 UTC on November 9, according to the event information.

The event also features three new themed paints: the black-and-red Desmodus finish for the Aegis Eclipse, the Frankenstein-inspired Abomination paint for the Vulture, and the black-and-gray Lyken paint for the L22 Alpha Wolf. Returning paints and the Fieldsbury Bear helmets are also available as part of the seasonal offering.

Players should note that the Snarling Vanduul mask is expected to be delivered after the event rather than immediately upon completing the challenge. Community reports indicate the usual in-game confirmation message may not appear, which could leave participants uncertain whether their progress has been recorded.

Day of the Vara is Star Citizen’s recurring Halloween celebration, built around limited-time Arena Commander activities, themed cosmetics and community contests.
