In the latest update of Star Citizen, version 315, the inventory system has undergone a complete overhaul. Rather than equipping items through the mobiglass, players now use the inventory menu. Items purchased by the player will be stored locally at the specific location they are in and can only be accessed from there, rather than from a global inventory. Pressing the ‘i’ key on the keyboard opens the inventory menu, where players can drag items onto their character to equip them. Alternatively, they can right-click on items and select ‘equip’. Filters are available to help players find items more easily.

To transfer items from the local inventory to a backpack, players simply drag the items from the right side to the left. To transfer them into the ship they are currently in, they can switch to the vehicle tab and perform the same action. The ‘knickknacks’ app in the mobiglass allows players to check where their items are stored. Currently, the only way to transfer items from one location to another is to load them onto a ship and physically transport them. However, in the future, it is hoped that there will be an option to have items transferred for a fee. The addition of a search option in the inventory is also desirable.

Another significant feature of the new inventory system is the ability to loot items from both players and NPCs. However, currently, there is no option to sell the looted items, which somewhat diminishes the purpose of looting. Nevertheless, players have the ability to loot ammunition from dead NPCs and players.

Overall, the new inventory system in Star Citizen version 315 offers a more streamlined approach, with items being stored locally and accessible only from the specific location. Equipping items is as easy as dragging and dropping, and filters help with item organization. However, the absence of an item transfer system and the inability to sell looted items are limitations that may need to be addressed in future updates.
