Star Citizen Hedeby Gunworks: Metalworking, Crafting & Smithing

The video tells the story of Ultruis Hedbe, a passionate metalworker who, after discovering a unique antique weapon and apprenticing under a skilled smith, establishes Hedbe Gunworks known for its innovative and handcrafted firearms like the Salvo pistol. Despite challenges and a fallout with his mentor, Hedbe’s dedication to quality and creativity leads to a thriving business celebrated for blending traditional smithing with modern techniques.

The story begins with Ultruis Hedbe, a young man working at a foundry in the Ferren system, who discovers a unique double-barreled weapon among scrap metal. Despite its rust and neglect, Hedbe is captivated by its craftsmanship and distinct design, which contrasts sharply with the mass-produced weapons common in Assura. Although his supervisor orders him to melt it down or face a wage deduction, Hedbe reluctantly destroys the weapon but becomes obsessed with uncovering its history and the art of antique firearms.

Born into a struggling family, Hedbe left school at 15 to support his siblings and found work at a scrap foundry. His passion for metalworking grows as he learns from the flames of the furnace, eventually leading him to seek out Chay Extramm, a skilled local smith. Under Extramm’s mentorship, Hedbe apprentices for a decade, balancing foundry work by day and smithing by night, developing his skills and a love for both traditional and innovative metalworking techniques influenced by Extramm’s Banu heritage.

Hedbe’s apprenticeship sparks his creativity, and he begins offering gunsmithing services, improving existing weapons with bold modifications. However, a dangerous accident caused by one of his experimental mods leads to a fallout with Extramm, prompting Hedbe to establish his own forge. Starting small in his backyard, Hedbe repairs guns and engraves metal to fund his experiments, gradually growing his business as word spreads about his unique craftsmanship and designs.

His signature creation, the Salvo pistol, showcases Hedbe’s innovative approach by incorporating a freezing primer to prevent overheating and creating a supercooled casing that shatters into deadly fragments. The Salvo’s success brings him recognition, loyal customers, and investor interest, allowing Hedbe Gunworks to expand steadily while maintaining its distinctive blend of hand forging and machining techniques. Despite his growth, Hedbe remains committed to quality and originality, following manufacturing processes he established himself.

Years later, Extramm reappears carrying the very weapon Hedbe had destroyed decades ago—a rare and dangerous prototype called the Ducan with both ballistic and energy firing modes. Together, they restore the weapon as a symbol of Hedbe’s origins and inspiration. The story closes with Hedbe Gunworks thriving, celebrated for its unique craftsmanship and innovative designs, embodying Hedbe’s passion and dedication to the art of metalworking and gunsmithing.
