The Tyrol system is a dangerous and unstable system consisting of seven planets orbiting a binary star pair. Scientists believe that the subgiant star in the system is on the verge of going Nova, making the system highly volatile. Due to the risk factor, long-term settlement in the system has been discouraged by the United Empire of Earth. However, various entities, including educational institutions and weapons manufacturers, have invested in expeditions to Tyrol for scientific research and experiments that would be too hazardous in other systems.

Tyrol has also become a haven for outlaws and miscreants who seek to avoid the watchful eye of the law. The system’s unofficial settlements are populated by people who have chosen to live there out of desperation or lack of alternatives. The first planet in the system is heavily charred, and a research base was constructed on its largest moon to study the dying stars. However, the base was taken over by a smuggling community known as Frontrow. The system’s second and third planets have undergone recent transformations, with Tyrol 2 being a tidally locked flame-licked iron core, and Tyrol 3 being a mineral-rich graveyard.

The system’s asteroid belt and the fourth planet, which was once part of a healthy green band, still attract miners seeking valuable minerals. Tyrol 4, a cthonian planet, has caches of gemstones and is a prime focus for resource harvesting. Haven, the fifth planet, was once an icy ball but now consists of a desolate rock with surface chasms and underground caverns.
