Star Citizen Building AWESOME FPS Combat & Interactions

The developers of Star Citizen have announced several updates to the game’s first-person gameplay, including improved space EVA mechanics, enhanced combat features such as takedowns and weapon mechanics, and the integration of Squadron 42 features into the persistent universe. These updates aim to provide a more immersive and realistic experience for players within the next year.

In this Star Citizen presentation, the developers discussed updates coming to first-person gameplay, including extra vehicular activity (EVA) in space. EVA has become more immersive and less disorienting, with improved gravity mechanics and the ability to crawl, push, pull, and move around the exterior of ships and stations. They have also enhanced prone and crawling effects, allowing players to flip, rotate, and roll while aiming. Ladders and interactions have also been improved, making them easier to use and adding more variety to gameplay. Additionally, new features like radiation hazards, improved kiosks and terminals, and a looting system have been added for a more realistic and engaging experience.

The presentation also showcased new combat mechanics, including takedowns, restraints, and contextual environmental takedowns. Players will have the option to choose between lethal and non-lethal takedowns, considering their playstyle. The gameplay will also feature an FPS ping system, allowing players to identify points of interest, including enemies and missions, with minimal signature. Weapon mechanics have been revamped, with improvements in recoil, aiming down sights, and weapon wear and tear. Weapons can now jam and will require clearing during combat.

The developers also shared that some features from the single-player game Squadron 42 will be integrated into the persistent universe of Star Citizen. NPCs will have traits that affect their behavior and tactics, including aggression, cautiousness, defense, and more. Players will also have the opportunity to recruit and manage their own NPC crew. Medics will prioritize rescuing and healing teammates, while NPCs will have inventories and manage their ammunition. They will also understand and avoid hazards and react to explosions.

Overall, the updates showcased in this presentation aim to enhance the first-person experience in Star Citizen. From improved EVA mechanics to more realistic and engaging combat interactions, these updates are expected to be implemented within the next 12 months in the persistent universe of the game.
