Star Citizen | Behind the Ships: Gatac Tyilui

The Gatac Tyilui (Teelu) is Gatac Industries’ first alien snub fighter carrier in Star Citizen, featuring advanced Xi’an anti-gravity technology, a unique 360-degree hangar, and ample cargo space to support snub fighters with repair, refuel, and rearm capabilities. Designed for a support combat role, the ship offers immersive alien aesthetics, functional turret placements, and a dynamic gameplay experience focused on aiding fleet members and creating battlefield chaos.

The Gatac Tyilui, or Teelu, is Gatac Industries’ first dedicated alien snub fighter carrier, designed specifically to support snub fighters which lack quantum drives and have limited range. Unlike human ships, the Teelu features a unique chassis with a large rear hangar door and air shield, capable of holding four snub fighters and 96 SCU of cargo space. This cargo capacity supports rearm, repair, and refuel mechanics, allowing players to restock missiles, ammunition, and hydrogen fuel, as well as repair hull damage.

A standout feature of the Teelu is its innovative rear section, which serves as the ship’s centerpiece. It uses Xi’an anti-gravity and magnetic technology, creating a 360-degree hangar environment where players can walk on walls that act as floors, eliminating the traditional sense of up and down. This creates a dynamic and immersive space for players to navigate, including the ability to jog around the entire interior, showcasing advanced alien tech and design.

The ship’s interior transitions smoothly from the intense experience of piloting snub fighters to calm, cave-like corridors leading to a shared hub area reminiscent of the Railen. The main rec room features high ceilings, imposing arches, and an art deco/alien aesthetic with organic materials like alien rock on the walls, giving the space a grand yet cozy atmosphere. Turret access rooms on either side of the ship provide comfortable, well-designed spaces with windows and seating, as well as escape pods for safety.

The Teelu is intended for players who want to engage in combat in a support role rather than direct firepower dominance. Its armaments, including additional rear-facing turrets, provide enough firepower to distract and annoy enemies, enabling fleet members to achieve objectives. The ship’s gameplay revolves around supporting snub fighters and creating chaos on the battlefield, with the ability to quickly retreat if needed, likened to a swarm of angry wasps attacking and then escaping.

Players have shown enthusiasm for experimenting with the Teelu, especially in creative docking scenarios, sometimes humorously pushing the ship’s design limits. The developers acknowledge the community’s playful engagement with the ship, noting requests for alien snub fighters and humorous docking challenges. Overall, the Teelu represents a significant step forward in alien ship design within Star Citizen, emphasizing unique technology, support roles, and immersive environments.
