The Star Citizen Alpha 4.8 Evocati PTU build introduces notable features like the improved Multi-Function Display with enhanced combat visuals and the new but currently buggy Caterpillar command module, while facing ongoing issues such as the unresolved EVA bug and an empty Gladiator torpedo bay. Additionally, the Tactical Strike Group event has been rebalanced for easier completion by small elite teams, sound effects have been upgraded, and further testing is anticipated before the patch moves to Wave 1.
The latest Star Citizen Alpha 4.8 Evocati PTU build has faced delays in moving to Wave 1 PTU, likely due to ongoing issues common in the PTU cycle. One persistent problem is the EVA bug, where players spinning uncontrollably in space after exiting their ships remain unresolved despite patch notes claiming a fix. Additionally, the Gladiator’s torpedo bay is currently empty, either due to a bug or upcoming changes, which will be monitored once the patch advances to Wave 1.
A notable improvement in this build is the new Multi-Function Display (MFD) called MFD cast, which provides a clearer 3D preview of both the player’s ship and target ship. The display shows detailed visual cues such as engine colors during boosts, shield strength through color changes, and hull health with varying colors, although some aspects like the hull health indicator could be further refined. Importantly, the MFD now highlights exact points of impact when the ship is hit, enhancing situational awareness during combat.
The Caterpillar’s command module is a major new feature but remains buggy and difficult to use. Players cannot access the pilot seat, and the door and ladder system is awkward, especially from outside the ship. The command module includes two decks with various components such as a tractor beam station, jump drive, fire extinguisher, and seating for troops, but it lacks logout beds and weapon racks. The module can detach from the main ship and sustain minor damage separately, but its current functionality is limited, and detailed testing will continue once it reaches Wave 1.
Significant changes also affect the Tactical Strike Group event, which involves defending an Idris called Tranquility and completing multiple mission stages. The event’s difficulty has been adjusted, including a reduction in the Idris’s initial hull strength and tuning down EMP effects in the trench run, making it easier to complete with a small elite group. However, the event still demands strong teamwork and communication, as mission failure occurs if all players die. The event features multiple locations and intense combat, but some feel it could be more challenging to match its anticipated scale.
Finally, sound effects have been enhanced with deeper, more impactful audio for weapon fire and damage alerts, adding to the immersive experience. While the presenter did not have time to test all new features such as refueling and Xeno threat missions, they expressed excitement about upcoming patches and content, including the Ironclad, Iron Assault, and the Kraken. They anticipate Wave 1 release soon and plan to continue thorough testing to uncover all aspects of the 4.8 update.
