SERVER MESHING Tests Begin! - A historical milestone for Star Citizen

The recent Star Citizen server meshing play test with evocati members marked a significant milestone in the game’s development, showcasing promising progress in static server meshing. The test involved two servers meshed to run different systems, with positive results indicating minimal crashes and quick server recovery, generating excitement among players for the game’s future development.

The first ever Star Citizen server meshing play test with actual backers and players was conducted recently, marking a significant milestone in the game’s development. The test involved the evocati group on the tech preview channel and focused on static server meshing, showing promising progress in the game’s development. While this doesn’t mean that static server meshing will be available in Alpha 4.0 sooner than the current estimate of summertime this year, it is still exciting news for the community.

During the test, two servers were statically meshed, with one running the Stanton system and the other running the Pyro system. Each server had a capacity of 100 players, and the server crash recovery system was operational. Players were able to choose which location to enter, with a request to mix between the systems to gather necessary data. Jump Gates were not enabled due to a bug that would crash the game if used, but once fixed, players will be able to travel between systems through jump gates.

The test results indicated that the evocati experienced very few crashes overall, with one player going through the entire test without a single 30k error. Server recovery after crashes was reported to be quick, with one instance taking around 2 minutes. The development team is working on further optimizing the server crash recovery system to reduce downtime even more. Evocati participants are now allowed to share their experiences, although they cannot share footage or images from the test.

The server meshing team will analyze the data gathered from the test to address any issues and improve the system. The next steps may involve fixing the bug related to jump gates and potentially enabling players to travel between systems seamlessly. The community is eagerly anticipating further updates on the progress of server meshing tests and the replication layer release to live servers. Overall, the successful server meshing test has generated excitement among players and showcases the ongoing development of Star Citizen’s groundbreaking technology.
