RSI Polaris - Concept Ship Review

"The RSI Polaris is one of Star Citizen’s smaller cap ships, but I happen to think small can be beautiful – and to me I think it represents something of a Goldilocks situation where it’s big enough to give a cool multicrew experience, but small enough to see regular action if you can put a crew together.

In this vid we’re going to take a deep dive into the Polaris, checkout it’s systems, weaponry and layout – and theory craft a little about potential use cases ahead of its release later this year!

In this video review, the content creator discusses the highly anticipated RSI Polaris, a combat capital ship in Star Citizen. The Polaris generates a lot of interest due to its smaller size and manageable crew count of 14, making it more accessible for smaller player organizations and groups. It is expected to see more use in weekday evenings compared to larger capital ships like the Idris or Javelin, which may only be used for special occasions. In terms of PvP, the Polaris is appealing as it may offer a lower risk in terms of potential losses compared to larger capital ships.

The Polaris is equipped with two capital-sized components, a power plant and radar system, which aligns with its role as a patrol vessel and search and rescue ship. However, the ship matrix may not be up to date and there have been mentions of additional capital-sized components such as shield generators and coolers. The ship’s firepower is notable, with seven turrets, potentially upgraded to larger sizes, and a torpedo payload of 28 size 10 torpedoes. The Polaris also features a hangar that can accommodate a fighter escort, making it versatile for various missions.

The ship’s layout has been improved, with a widened bridge for better visibility and stations for the captain, pilot, co-pilot, and systems operators. There are also quarters for the captain and co-pilot, an armory, medical facilities, and a brig. The lower deck houses engineering, cargo space, and the torpedo room. The Polaris can be used in various scenarios, such as tackling mid-level PvE combat, acting as a flagship in medium-sized fleet engagements, conducting wolf pack missions, and participating in mass-scale fleet battles.

The content creator emphasizes that this review is not a recommendation to purchase the ship, as it costs $750. Instead, it focuses on how a group of players could buy and fly the ship in-game. The video concludes by highlighting the exciting year ahead for Star Citizen and the potential for the Polaris to be delivered, providing players with their first taste of a combat capital ship experience.
