Daniel Raymond shares that the 4.4 Evocati release for Star Citizen offers a stable but content-light update centered on the visually impressive Levki station in the Nyx system, featuring detailed environments and unique elevator systems despite some technical issues. While key anticipated features are missing, he encourages players to explore Levki as a new home base and expects more content and fixes in future patches.
Daniel Raymond, the voice behind Ray’s Guide, shares his initial impressions of the 4.4 Evocati release for Star Citizen, recorded while he is on the road. He begins by noting the build’s stability, with no client or server crashes experienced during his playtime. However, he points out that the update currently offers limited new content, focusing primarily on the Nyx system, which includes the station Levki and two jump points. Notably, some highly anticipated features like the planet Nyx One, the Rock Breaker mission, and fleet battles previewed at CitizenCon are absent from this build.
Levki, the main new location, offers a large, visually impressive station with much to explore. While it retains some familiar elements from the old Levki orbiting Stanton, it is not identical. The station includes a complex labyrinth of tunnels that are currently empty and serve mainly for sightseeing. Levki features extra-large landing pads with freight elevators, which could be operationally useful for transloading between ships and the station. The station’s exterior and the experience of flying through its borehole are highlighted as particularly enjoyable.
Raymond discusses the elevator systems within Levki, identifying two types: the “normal” elevators accessed from the hangar and the main lobby elevators that function more like a subway system. The normal elevators have significant issues, including unresponsiveness and players becoming stuck inside, requiring workarounds like exiting the ship to move around. In contrast, the subway-style elevators work smoothly, transporting players sequentially between the four floors of the station. This elevator problem is a notable technical issue in the current build.
The overall atmosphere of Levki is described as gritty but less so than Pyro stations, somewhat akin to Grim Hex in terms of dilapidation but with a friendlier, almost hippie commune vibe. The station is industrial in scale, with many docking ports and well-developed areas such as Teaches Ship Shop, which offers a good selection of ships and components. Despite the station’s size and detail, there is currently little gameplay content specific to Nyx, aside from some interstellar cargo missions visible in the MobiGlas interface.
Raymond concludes by reflecting on the current state of the 4.4 Evocati release, acknowledging that while it delivers a visually impressive and explorable new location, it lacks the full suite of promised Nyx content. He speculates that additional features may arrive in future patches or updates, possibly in 4.4.1, 4.4.2, or even 4.5. He encourages players to enjoy Levki as a home base and to appreciate the novelty of the new environment, while also noting ongoing issues like elevator functionality that may impact the player experience during the initial launch period.
