Star Citizen’s Patch 4.9 introduces a variety of changes and fixes, starting with cosmetic updates such as two new hairstyles and an upgraded juDed to meet current standards. The much-anticipated Siege of Orison event has been postponed to patch 4.10, scheduled for August. Players can now access the CQ7 bullpup rifle in full auto or burst fire modes through new Marine Gang locations and Recoaglia contracts. Several longstanding issues have been addressed, including improvements to jump tunnel functionality, fuel notifications, docking reliability, and double hanger door fixes at rest stops. Additionally, ship cleanup has become more aggressive in specific locations, with idle ships being deleted after five hours.
The patch also brings significant updates to locations and terminals. The Argo Moth is now available for purchase at New Deal in Lawville, which has expanded its terminals from two to four. Some commodity terminals have been replaced, and Dumpers Depot now stocks food and drink. Area 18 and Grimhex have adopted a new transport system, with plans to extend this to other locations in patch 4.10. Ship ordinance handling has been enhanced with new “magical cages” for stacking, and freight elevators now provide clearer feedback on partial transfers. ASOP terminals have improved ship status displays, showing whether ships are deployed or captured, along with their storage locations.
Several ships have received balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements. Drake Clippers now have thruster fins that can be destroyed, and the Caterpillar’s operations bridge seat can be used for piloting. Ballistic weapon damage has been reduced for sizes 1 to 3, while the size 4 Talon ballistic cannon has been revitalized as a viable loadout option. Handling tweaks have been made across various ships, with some experiencing slight improvements and others minor reductions. New hit markers now visually indicate whether shots hit shields, armor, or are deflected, though some players have requested a toggle option for this feature.
Mining has seen notable enhancements, including a 20% increase in all ship mining lasers’ effectiveness and the activation of pingwave scanning, which automatically scans signatures when pinging, streamlining the process. Nyx’s asteroid belts have been reorganized, separating aluminum and iron deposits. Fuel management has been refined with defined fuel nozzle attachment types, the removal of pre-filled fuel pods from shops, and the ability to top up external fuel tanks at refuel beacons, although some bugs remain. Landing services now prevent simultaneous refueling and repair/rearm actions on pads.
Other gameplay elements have been improved, such as increased explosive power for trip mines and frag grenades, fixed AR markers for live grenades, and the availability of medical gel refills from medical boxes. NPC behaviors, like those of Balacar, have been updated for more dynamic interactions, and new defend ship missions have been added for Head Hunters in Stanton. Tractor beams now function correctly in armistice zones. Persistence testing shows mixed results with weapon stats and insured ship loadouts carrying over between builds. Overall, Patch 4.9 delivers a substantial mix of fixes, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements, setting the stage for upcoming content in future patches.
