MASSIVE Update for Kerbal Space Program 2 Announced - For Science!

Intercept Games has announced a major update called “For Science” for Kerbal Space Program 2, which will introduce a highly anticipated campaign mode, performance improvements, new ship parts, and exploration of the star system to gather science. The update aims to address the slow updates and development concerns, and is set to release in December, providing players with a revamped experience and long-awaited features.

Kerbal Space Program 2 (KSP 2) has faced criticism for its slow updates and development since its Early Access launch in February. However, Intercept Games has now announced a major update called “For Science.” This update will introduce a campaign mode to the game, allowing players to progress by exploring the star system and gathering science. The science mode was a beloved feature in the original Kerbal Space Program and has been highly anticipated in KSP 2. The update is set to release in December and will also bring significant performance improvements to address the game’s ongoing performance issues.

The update will present players with two options on the main screen: sandbox mode, which is the current version of the game, and exploration mode. Intercept Games chose the name “exploration” because it aligns with their future plans for the game, allowing players to continue their campaigns from the present version to interstellar travel and resource gathering. The exploration mode will introduce new ship parts that players can use to add science modules, with each part having mass and shape that affect ship performance and handling.

While there is limited information on what players will be able to explore and gather science from, it is expected to involve various biomes within the star system and other aspects of space. To facilitate collecting science data, the update will introduce new transmitters and a research inventory to help meet the conditions for claiming different science rewards. Additionally, a tech tree will be implemented in the research and development center, enabling players to unlock new categories and improve vehicles as they progress through science.

The update will also introduce mission control, where players can undertake missions to learn about rocket building and other aspects of the game. Lastly, the update will include the long-awaited addition of heating and thermal mechanics, which will require players to pay careful attention during re-entry due to the significance of atmospheres.

Intercept Games has also hinted at undisclosed features that will be included in the update. The announcement of this major update shows progress being made in addressing the concerns surrounding KSP 2, and fans can look forward to its release in December.
