The Star Citizen roadmap has shifted back to monthly patches, with 4.9 focusing on fixes, new diverse contracts, and the introduction of the Bellator combat suit, while instancing features and major content like the Siege of Orison are delayed to 4.10. Patch 4.10 will also bring ship loadout improvements and fuel system changes, with cautious optimism for the Planet Tech V5 and Nyx 1 landing zone arriving in 4.11, though players are advised to manage expectations as development continues.
The latest Star Citizen roadmap update reveals a shift from the recent two-month patch cycle back to monthly releases, with patches 4.9, 4.10, and 4.11 scheduled for July, August, and September respectively. This change aims to allow the development teams to address bigger issues more frequently rather than relying on smaller hotfixes. While this is a positive step indicating that previous promises made by the developers are being implemented, the actual impact will depend on the quality of the upcoming builds.
One significant delay is the instancing feature, along with related content such as the Siege of Orison and the Inerson meeting with Recoagia, which will no longer appear in the 4.9 patch. Testing instancing in early 4.9 builds revealed issues, such as players getting stuck between elevator zones and instance entry barriers, making its removal from this patch a wise decision. Instead, 4.9 will focus on fixes and content additions, including new contracts from Recoagulia that cover a variety of mission types like scanning, mining, and combat, making it one of the most diverse mission hubs in the game.
The 4.9 patch will also introduce the Bellator combat suit, known as the John Wick suit, though it is not yet accessible in the Public Test Universe (PTU). Additionally, new visual indicators for ship combat, showing deflection and penetration, have been implemented, with further enhancements to hit markers and audio cues planned. The CQ7 Bullpup weapon is partially implemented, featuring full auto and burst fire modes, but still lacks final audio and balancing adjustments.
Looking ahead to 4.10 in August, all instancing-related features, including the Siege of Orison and Inerson Recog content, will be introduced. This patch will also bring improvements to ship loadout management, such as timed claims, expedite fees, and free recovery for ships lost due to game issues. Moreover, 4.10 will implement controversial ship fuel system changes, adjusting fuel tank capacities and consumption rates to better match ship sizes and roles, effectively rolling back previous buffs made when the Pyro system was introduced.
Regarding the much-anticipated Planet Tech V5 and the Nyx 1 landing zone, there is cautious optimism that these might debut with the 4.11 patch in September rather than 4.10 as initially hoped. However, players are advised to temper their expectations, as the development team is still focused on addressing fundamental issues. The community is encouraged to follow official updates and remain patient as these complex features continue to be refined.
