I should have tried this earlier – Bigscreen VR

The speaker spent over $7,000 on a triple ultrawide OLED setup for their racing simulator but decided to try out the Bigscreen VR headset after hearing about its immersive experience. They received the Bigscreen Beyond VR headset, which costs around $1,000, and compared it to the more affordable Quest 3 headset priced at $500. The Bigscreen Beyond VR headset is compact and lightweight, with a custom 3D printed face cushion for comfort. However, it requires an external source for head tracking and lacks video pass-through like the Quest 3.

After setting up the Bigscreen Beyond VR headset, the speaker was impressed by the immersive experience, noting clear visuals and feeling like they were actually in the virtual environment. They enjoyed playing Assetto Corsa in VR and found the experience to be highly engaging. Comparing it to the Quest 3, the Bigscreen Beyond had better displays but showed some drawbacks like haloing and softness around the edges of lenses. Despite this, the speaker found VR racing to be more intuitive and realistic compared to traditional screen setups.

The Bigscreen Beyond VR headset features 1-inch OLED panels with high resolution, providing detailed visuals and a convincing experience. Racing in VR offered a more immersive and intuitive experience, with better depth perception and a sense of movement. The speaker appreciated the compact design of the VR headset, which saved space compared to triple screen setups. While the Quest 3 offered good value with its built-in GPU and battery, the Bigscreen Beyond excelled in display quality and compactness.

The speaker highlighted the drawbacks of the Bigscreen Beyond, such as glare on the lenses, the plastic front being a dust magnet, and the limited field of view at 102°. Despite these issues, the speaker still considered the Bigscreen Beyond to be one of the best PC gaming experiences available. They found VR racing to be so immersive that they couldn’t go back to a screen setup, even one with large OLED monitors. The overall value and immersion provided by the Bigscreen Beyond VR headset made it a standout choice for the speaker in their racing simulator setup.
