In the EVE Frontier roadmap update stream, CCP announced a partnership with SHW to migrate the game onto their blockchain network and outlined upcoming features across Cycles 3 to 5, including enhanced base building, flight controls, character progression, and strategic gameplay elements. The developers emphasized a realistic, science-based survival experience focused on immersive progression, community interaction, and continuous player feedback to shape the evolving game world.
In the recent EVE Frontier roadmap update stream, CCP developers announced a major partnership with SHW to migrate the game onto their blockchain network. This move aims to leverage SHW’s expertise and enthusiasm, especially since many team members are current or former EVE Online players excited about Frontier’s future. The developers emphasized that the roadmap presented is grounded in reality, with planned features having undergone pre-production and confident delivery timelines, although some adjustments are expected as development progresses.
The core pillars of EVE Frontier were reiterated: a science-grounded experience where energy consumption feels logical, a challenging survival gameplay that rewards effort, and the overarching theme of rebuilding a broken world. The game’s “golden path” or major game loop involves awakening in a harsh environment, struggling to survive, building shelter and means of travel, escaping initial zones, and eventually thriving by exploring ancient wonders and engaging with other players. This loop is designed to create a deep, immersive progression from solo survival to community interaction.
Cycle 3, launching soon, focuses heavily on improvements to creative base building and flight controls. Notably, verticality is being introduced to base building, allowing for more complex three-dimensional structures. The flight control system will be updated to WD controls, accompanied by a time-limited event for players to test and provide feedback. Other enhancements include tighter collision detection for base placement, new ship weapon systems with improved targeting mechanics, and a more seamless industry system where production continues as long as materials are available without needing to restart tasks.
Looking ahead to Cycle 4, scheduled for December, the developers plan to introduce a character progression system featuring clones as assets, tribal base building with cooperative expansion, and a more distinct differentiation of ship roles and attributes. This phase will also bring smart deployables and allow players to visually see their clones in-game, adding depth to the player identity and gameplay. The team aims to create a dynamic ecosystem where ships and clones have unique functions that contribute strategically to the evolving frontier world.
Further into the future, Cycle 5, expected around March next year, will mark the start of the full migration to the SHW network. Planned features include a scanning and signature system, base attack and defense mechanics, new ships and sites, a travel overhaul, and an updated HUD. Many of these features are currently conceptual but align with the vision trailers shared earlier, which serve as communication tools for the development teams and community. The developers expressed excitement about the upcoming cycles and encouraged ongoing community dialogue to prioritize features and refine the game experience.
