Elite Dangerous [VR] - The Thargoid War - 49 - A New War

The Thargoids have launched a new attack on human-populated regions of the galaxy, with conflicts occurring in the Coalsack, Pleiades, and even the recently settled California Nebula. The Skunks, an elite anti-xeno squadron, are mobilizing to defend the California Nebula and encourage all commanders to join the fight in order to secure victory against the Thargoid threat.

The Thargoids have launched a new attack on human-populated regions of the galaxy. Currently, there are three active conflicts taking place. The Witch Head Nebula remains secure, but the Coalsack and Pleiades are under heavy Thargoid assault. Surprisingly, even a recently settled system in the California Nebula has come under attack. The California Nebula is under threat, but the Alliance is mobilizing its elite anti-xeno squadron, the Skunks, to defend it. The Skunks, comprising skilled Axi commanders, have become their own entity and are taking the fight to the Thargoids.

The plan is to head to the California Nebula and provide support in the conflict happening there. Due to its distance from other populated areas, fewer commanders and squadrons are deploying there. The Skunks hope to secure an early victory before returning to defend the Coalsack and Pleiades. The commander deploys in their ship, Icarus, with new squadron tags proudly displayed.

The first engagement with the Thargoids involves intercepting their fighters. The NPC allies prove helpful with shields, although they tend to take damage quickly. The commander’s ship, the Crate Phantom, is not as suited for open warfare as it is for solo or mega ship combat. Another encounter involves Basilisks, which, combined with scout presence, pose a significant threat. The commander then switches to their Nail in Gear, the best of all AX vessels, to tackle the Thargoid fighters.

After returning to the conflict, the commander’s skunk squadron is set upon by a large number of Basilisks. It becomes evident that the Thyroids are targeting the local station, which is newly established and now in flames. A rescue ship is sent to the system to aid in the evacuation of civilians. The skunks continue to fight against both scouts and Hydra-class Thargoid interceptors. With the support of other organizations in the California Nebula, they remain confident that the system can be defended.

While the battle is far from over, commanders are encouraged to join the fight against the Thargoid attack. Even those who can’t fight can contribute by rescuing the population of damaged starports. The promise is that with the collective efforts of humanity, victory will be achieved once again.
