The cockpit design is a standout feature, with an asymmetrical full glass surround that provides the pilot and two passengers with an expansive all-around view, ideal for mining operations. The ship boasts an unusually high number of hardpoints and optional internal slots, with specific restrictions to emphasize its mining role. It includes eight hardpoints—four of which are reserved for mining equipment—and twelve optional internal slots, two of which are similarly restricted. A large mining slot next to the cockpit houses a new energy projectile-based mining tool that functions both as a mining laser and an abrasion blaster, capable of breaking surface deposits.
The Type 11’s internal components are optimized for mining efficiency, featuring a size six power plant and power distributor to support energy-intensive mining equipment, along with thrusters, FSD, life support, sensors, and fuel tank tailored to its role. Additionally, it introduces a new size five mining drone controller, exclusive to this ship, that works alongside an SLF bay to provide limited defensive capabilities. This setup suggests the ship can defend itself modestly but is primarily focused on swift mining operations and escape rather than combat.
Frontier’s approach with the Type 11 represents a departure from their historically generic ship roles, aiming instead for a specialized mining vessel that stands out in its category.
