Crowning the Light Freight Champions: Is the Prowler Utility a Contender?

Daniel Rayman evaluates light freight and light middle freight ships in Star Citizen, highlighting the Esperia Prowler Utility’s decent cargo capacity but high price and limited vehicle carrying ability, ultimately ranking it last among light freight contenders. He crowns the Cutlass Black and Crusader Spirit C1 as the top ships in their respective categories for their balanced cargo capacity, vehicle handling, onboard tractor beams, and value, while also announcing several viewer giveaways.

In this video, Daniel Rayman from Ray’s Guide evaluates the light freight and light middle freight ships in Star Citizen, focusing particularly on the newly revealed Esperia Prowler Utility variant. He categorizes ships based on cargo capacity, from light freight (20 to 50 SCU) to light middle freight (50 to 100 SCU), and assesses them according to seven criteria: grid cargo capacity, grid efficiency, container usage, vehicle carrying capacity, ability to carry an Atlas mech off-grid, presence of an onboard tractor beam, ease of loading and unloading, and price.

Starting with the light freight category, the Prowler Utility ranks last among four contenders despite having a decent cargo capacity of 32 SCU and excellent grid efficiency, tied with the Zeus ES. However, it lacks vehicle carrying capacity without sacrificing cargo space, and although it features an external tractor beam and easy loading, its high price of $300 significantly lowers its overall score. Daniel questions the practicality of the Prowler Utility’s role as a fast combat resupply and loot extraction ship, pointing out that in-game mechanics often negate the need for such resupply and that cheaper alternatives exist for similar tasks.

The other ships in the light freight class fare better, with the Nomad placing third due to its vehicle hauling capabilities and onboard tractor beam at a much lower price point. The Zeus 2 ES comes second, offering good cargo capacity and the ability to carry an Atlas mech off-grid, but lacks a shipboard tractor beam. The reigning champion in this category is the Cutlass Black, which boasts the highest cargo capacity, decent vehicle handling, an onboard tractor beam, and a reasonable price, making it the best value for light freight missions.

Moving on to the light middle freight class, Daniel ranks five ships with the Crusader Spirit C1 taking the top spot. The Spirit C1 excels with its efficient cargo grid that can be filled with just two large crates, excellent vehicle handling, off-grid Atlas carrying capacity, and an onboard tractor beam. Its only minor drawback is its larger footprint, which can make maneuvering in tight spaces challenging. Other ships in this category include the Hull A, praised for its low price and ease of loading but limited vehicle capacity, and the Constellation Andromeda, notable for its high cargo capacity but somewhat expensive price.

Finally, Daniel announces several giveaways for viewers, including a video contest with rewards like the Asgard assault lander and the Starlancer Attack ship, as well as annual and channel growth giveaways featuring ships such as the Starlancer Max, Arasta mining ship, and the Merchantman. He encourages viewers to participate by subscribing, commenting with the secret word related to the video (“emergency delivery”), and staying engaged with the channel. The video concludes with his signature sign-off, wishing viewers safe travels in the Star Citizen universe.
