To remedy this, players can trade gear with their companions. By talking to the companion and selecting “Let’s trade gear,” players can give their companions weapons and armor that they prefer.
To equip the gear on the companion, players need to access their inventory. This can be done by pressing the “Q” key. Once in the inventory, players can hover over the desired item they want the companion to equip and press the “B” key. It is worth noting that when hovering over the gear, players will see their own character wearing it, rather than the companion. However, rest assured that the companion will equip the gear correctly.
This gear-swapping feature also extends to the companions’ attire in settlements. If players find themselves tired of their companion, such as Sarah, wearing a red leather jacket, they can easily swap it out for a different outfit. However, it’s worth mentioning that not all companions, like Vasco, can wear human pants due to their physical limitations. This means that Vasco won’t be able to participate in current human fashion trends.
In summary, Starfield players have the ability to change and upgrade the gear and attire of their companions. By trading gear and accessing the companion’s inventory, players can equip their companions with weapons and armor of their choosing. It’s important to note that when hovering over the gear, players will see their own character wearing it, but the companion will still equip it.
