Argo RAFT Review | Star Citizen 4.2 4K Gameplay

The Argo Raft in Star Citizen patch 4.2 has been significantly improved with doubled cargo capacity, making it a more competitive and cost-effective medium freight ship suitable for hauling multiple contracts efficiently. While not designed for combat due to its slow speed and moderate defenses, it offers good crew amenities, practical cargo handling, and excellent value, solidifying its role as a strong medium hauler.

The Argo Raft, reviewed initially three years ago as a less favorable option compared to the Freelancer Max, has seen significant improvements in Star Citizen patch 4.2, primarily due to its doubled cargo capacity. This medium freight ship now offers enhanced utility, making it a more competitive choice for hauling. The video review follows a structured format covering a ship tour, combat performance, handling and visibility, operating costs and profitability, and a final summary, providing a comprehensive look at the Raft’s capabilities.

Starting with the ship tour, the Raft features a rear cargo deck capable of holding six 32 SU crates, accessible via an elevator leading to two decks: the main and top decks. The top deck houses engineering components and the tractor beam control station, while the main deck includes crew amenities such as armor storage, a bathroom, living quarters, and the bridge. The design balances functionality with crew comfort, though some areas like the airlock and cargo visibility have noted limitations.

In terms of combat, the Raft is not designed for fighting but carries defensive and offensive weaponry including a remote turret with two size three laser cannons and two size one hardpoints for additional weapons. Its defensive shields are moderate, offering enough protection to escape or await assistance. The ship’s visibility is good, with a forward-facing cockpit canopy, but its slow speed and heavy handling, especially when loaded, make it vulnerable in combat situations.

Handling-wise, the Raft is slow with a top SCM speed of 140 m/s and a cruising nav speed of 990 m/s, making it adequate for cargo runs but easily caught by fighters. Its VTOL thrusters aid in maneuvering during takeoff and landing. The quantum drive range allows for efficient travel within Stanton, though cooldown periods can leave the ship exposed. The Raft fits comfortably in medium hangars and is best loaded from the side to align cargo with elevators.

Economically, the Raft is cost-effective to operate, with primary expenses being quantum fuel refills. Its 192 SU cargo grid supports a variety of crates and can handle multiple medium hauling contracts simultaneously, making it a profitable hauler. While the external cargo storage poses some risk, it also reduces the need for boarding, potentially enhancing crew safety. Priced at 3.12 million alpha UEC (approximately $125), the Raft offers excellent value compared to similar ships, solidifying its position as a strong medium hauler option in Star Citizen.
