4.10 PTU Changes & Updates: Polaris Update, Medgun & Mining Head Changes | Star Citizen 4.10 PTU

Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 introduces enhancements such as cargo grids and a new transit system on the Polaris, extended med gun range, and functional gimbal modes for mining lasers on certain ships, improving gameplay in cargo handling, medical support, and mining. However, persistent bugs remain, including power management issues on large ships, glitches with cargo elevators, and navigation marker visibility problems, which impact ship functionality and player navigation.

In Star Citizen Alpha 4.10, several new features and updates have been introduced beyond instancing and siege mechanics. One notable update involves the Polaris, which now has cargo grids added to its cargo elevators. These grids allow players to place various sizes of cargo boxes, with each elevator capable of holding an 8 SCU box or multiple smaller boxes. Additionally, a new transit system has been implemented on the Polaris, enabling quicker and more convenient movement between different ship areas via elevators. However, some glitches remain, such as cargo boxes obstructing elevator buttons and ongoing power management bugs that prevent players from reallocating power effectively.

The power management issue on the Polaris and Idris ships persists in 4.10, where players cannot add power to systems once the ship is turned on. A temporary workaround involves turning the ship off and on again to manage power once, but no permanent fix has been found. Attempts to resolve this by removing and reattaching energy weapons have been unsuccessful. This bug affects the ability to allocate power to weapons and engines, limiting ship functionality during gameplay.

Another improvement in 4.10 is the increased effective range of the paramedical device, the med gun, which now extends from 1.5 to 2.5 meters. This change enhances the ability to heal teammates from a greater distance, improving utility in combat and emergency situations. The med gun’s extended range was tested in-game and confirmed to work as intended, providing a more forgiving and practical healing tool for players.

Mining ships have also received updates, particularly with the introduction of functional gimbal modes for mining lasers. The Prospector now has a working gimbal mode that allows players to pivot mining lasers independently of ship movement, although locking the ship in place remains problematic. The Argo Mole’s mining lasers do not support gimbals, while the Drake Golem features a bespoke mining laser with gimbal capabilities. However, controlling the gimbal effectively on the Golem is challenging without a ship lock function, making the feature less practical during mining operations.

Lastly, a significant bug affecting navigation markers was identified, where jump points only display their names when directly targeted by the crosshair, rather than being visible at all times. This issue could hinder navigation and exploration, as players might struggle to locate jump points easily. Overall, the 4.10 update brings useful enhancements to cargo handling, medical support, and mining mechanics but also introduces some frustrating bugs that need addressing in future patches.
