New Genesis Planet Tech Info - Performance, Rivers, Mountains, Canyons, PTv6 & SQ42 | Star Citizen

Ryan shares updates on Star Citizen’s Genesis planet tech coming in patch 4.1.1, highlighting new architectural styles, diverse biomes, and ongoing performance optimizations focused on GPU improvements, while noting that rivers and advanced water features will arrive in future updates. Additionally, Planet Tech 5 will continue to be developed with large-scale geological features like mountains and canyons, but it won’t be used in Squadron 42 due to its linear gameplay design.

In this video, Ryan (aka Mac) shares the latest updates on the Genesis planet tech coming to Star Citizen 4.1.1, expected around mid to late September. He expresses gratitude to his patrons and viewers for their support and briefly promotes a head-tracking device called Be My Tracker, which benefits his channel. The main focus is on new information provided by Will Hayne, a key developer behind the planet tech, who answered community questions about the upcoming features and improvements.

Will Hayne revealed that the outposts on Nyx 1, placed by Stitect, will feature a new architectural style distinct from those on Pyro, likely in pristine condition due to the planet’s recent terraforming. All biomes and landscapes shown in the CitizenCon Direct preview of Nyx 1 will be included in the 4.1.1 release, with ongoing work suggesting even more content. The planet tech has exceeded expectations, and the development team is now prioritizing performance optimization, particularly by shifting workload from the CPU to the GPU to improve overall efficiency.

One notable omission for the initial Genesis release is rivers; although bodies of water and wetlands will be present, the new river tech didn’t make the cut for 4.1.1. However, more realistic watersheds and river systems are in development and may appear in future patches. This indicates that the team is close to implementing these features but needed more time to finalize them for the initial launch. Fans can look forward to improved water dynamics and river formations in upcoming updates.

Regarding the future of planet tech, there are currently no plans for a Planet Tech version 6. Instead, the next major advancement will focus on enhancing the height pipeline to create large-scale mountains and canyons akin to Earth’s natural wonders like the Grand Canyon and Scotland’s Highlands. While Nyx 1 already includes mountains and ravines, truly massive geological features are still in offline development and will eventually be integrated into Planet Tech 5. This suggests that version 5 will remain in use for Star Citizen 1.0, with further improvements planned post-launch.

Finally, it was confirmed that Planet Tech 5 is not being utilized in Squadron 42, which makes sense given its more linear, handcrafted gameplay design. Since players follow specific missions in the Navy and exploration is limited, the procedural planet tech isn’t necessary for that experience. Ryan concludes by inviting viewers to subscribe for future updates and to join his community on YouTube and Twitch for more Star Citizen content. He thanks everyone again for their support and looks forward to sharing more information as it becomes available.
