Star Citizen’s Alpha 4.9 patch will launch next week with most planned features, while the highly anticipated Siege of Orison operation has been delayed to Alpha 4.10 in mid-August to ensure system stability and incorporate community feedback. The update introduces new repeatable missions with Rico Battaglia, ship and vehicle enhancements, quality of life improvements, new combat clothing, and various smaller additions, encouraging players to test the content in the Public Test Universe ahead of the next major release.
The release schedule for Star Citizen’s upcoming content has been adjusted, with the highly anticipated Siege of Orison operation delayed from next week to mid-August. This decision was driven by the developers’ desire to ensure the system supporting the new content instancing is robust, as well as feedback from the community. Instead of delaying the entire Alpha 4.9 patch, the team chose to move Siege of Orison to a new Alpha 4.10 patch, allowing Alpha 4.9 to launch next week with most other planned features and improvements intact.
Alpha 4.9 introduces a new set of repeatable missions centered around Rico Battaglia, a returning mission giver who will fully return in Alpha 4.10. These missions allow players to start building reputation with Rico early by engaging in prospecting contracts, mining, and investigating attacks by a mysterious group called the Moraine. Players will undertake tasks such as rescuing missing workers, boarding hijacked ships, recovering data, and salvaging wreckage, providing a strong narrative foundation ahead of Rico’s full return.
Several enhancements to ships and vehicles are included in this patch. Notably, improvements to the combat UI will help players better understand the impact of their attacks, including hits, penetrations, and damage to shields, armor, hull, and components. Additionally, new ship fly-by sounds with improved audio fidelity and positional feedback are being reintroduced, though initially for a select number of ships. A new ordnance cargo container feature has been added to better organize and display missiles, torpedoes, and bombs on cargo grids.
Other quality of life updates include the re-deployment of distribution centers on planets and moons with systemic and physics improvements that will fix many missions associated with these locations. A new line of combat clothing is also coming to shops, offering better protection than regular clothing but not as much as full armor suits. These items are designed to enhance survivability in gunfights while adding style to player wardrobes.
The patch also brings a variety of smaller but meaningful additions, such as behavior improvements for juvenile and adult Vallacars, new hairstyles, and the introduction of a classic bullpup rifle from Behring. Importantly, new kiosks have been added to New Deal, marking a significant addition to the game’s infrastructure. Players are encouraged to participate in the Public Test Universe (PTU) to help identify and resolve issues ahead of the Siege of Orison release in Alpha 4.10, ensuring the content is as polished and enjoyable as possible.
