In the latest update for Star Citizen’s Alpha 4.0 ePTU, the build has transitioned from being available only to wave four testers to being open to all players. This significant change signals the impending launch of the 4.0 live version, which will introduce the new Pyro system into the game. The current server configuration includes four servers in Stanton and four in Pyro, accommodating a total of 500 players. The stability of this setup raises questions about whether it will remain the same or be adjusted for the live release.

One of the notable gameplay updates includes the adjustment of planetary gravity and atmospheric conditions on Pyro moons. The gravity on these moons has been set to -9.81, which is comparable to Earth’s gravity. Additionally, Pyro 4 and 5A (Ignis) and 5D (Fireal) now feature breathable atmospheres. Players can explore these areas without helmets, although they quickly discover the challenges of managing oxygen levels, particularly when venturing underwater.

The update also brings improvements to turret mechanics, including a new auto-gimbaling mode for turrets that enhances targeting capabilities. Gunners can now see visual indicators, such as green arrows, to indicate when they are on target. This feature aims to make combat more intuitive and engaging, allowing players to focus on maneuvering their ships while the turrets handle targeting more effectively. The update also addresses issues with AI-controlled turrets, reducing their tendency to fire through their own ships.

In terms of gameplay enhancements, the update includes significant improvements to the game’s navigation and progression systems, as well as visual optimizations for various elements like ambient audio and station interiors. Players will notice a more polished experience in these areas, contributing to the overall immersion of the game. Additionally, adjustments to health systems and injury mechanics have been made, making it more challenging to sustain and recover from injuries during gameplay.

Finally, the video showcases the new cargo mechanics and the capabilities of the Great Cat multi-tool. Players can experiment with tractor beams to move cargo boxes, although some bugs still persist in the system. The video highlights how different weights and sizes of cargo boxes affect the distance they can be moved, demonstrating the intricacies of the new gameplay features. Overall, the update promises to enhance the Star Citizen experience with new environments, mechanics, and improved gameplay systems.
